Mischa Dohler is full Professor in Wireless Communications at King’s College London, driving cross-disciplinary research and innovation in technology, sciences and arts. He is the Director of the Centre for Telecommunications Research, co-founder of the pioneering smart city company  Worldsensing, Fellow of the IEEE, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), and a Distinguished Member of Harvard Square Leaders Excellence. He is a frequent keynote, panel and tutorial speaker, and has received numerous awards. He has pioneered several research fields, contributed to numerous wireless broadband, IoT/M2M and cyber security standards, holds a dozen patents, organized and chaired numerous conferences, was the Editor-in-Chief of two journals, has more than 200 highly-cited publications, and authored several books. He acts as policy, technology and entrepreneurship adviser, examples being Richard Branson’s Carbon War Room, former Minister David Willetts’ 8 Great Technology Fund, UK Regulator Ofcom, UK Ministries, No 10, EPSRC ICT Strategy Advisory Team, European Commission, Tech London Advocate, ISO Smart City working group, and various start-ups. He is also an entrepreneur; composer & pianist with 5 albums on iTunes and an artist-verified Spotify account; as well as fluent in 6 languages. He has talked twice at TEDx. He had coverage by national and international TV & radio, and his contributions have featured on the BBC, the Wall Street Journal and many others.

Hermann Ney is a professor of computer science at RWTH Aachen University of Technology, Germany. Prior to joining the university in 1993, he headed the ASR team at Philips research where his work on dynamic programming beam search and language modelling ('Kneser-Ney' smoothing) resulted in commercial speech recognition products used for text dictation and spoken dialogue systems. His main research interests lie in the area of statistical classification, machine learning and human language technology and specific applications to speech recognition, machine translation, handwriting recognition and sign language processing. His work has resulted in more than 700 conference and journal papers (h-index 95, 50000+ citations, estimated using Google Scholar). He and his team contributed to a large number of large-scale projects on speech and language processing, like the German project VERBMOBIL, the European projects TC-STAR, QUAERO, TRANSLECTURES and EU-BRIDGE and American projects GALE, BOLT and BABEL. In VERBMOBIL, he and his team introduced the phrase-based approach to machine translation. In TC-STAR, they built the first research prototype system for spoken language translation of real-life domains.

Hermann Ney is a fellow of both IEEE and ISCA (Int. Speech Communication Association). In 2005, he was the recipient of the Technical Achievement Award of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. For the years 2010-2013, he was awarded a senior DIGITEO chair at LIMIS/CNRS in Paris, France. In 2013, he received the award of honour of the International Association for Machine Translation (IAMT). In 2016, he was awarded an ERC advanced grant of the European Research Council (ERC). In 2019, he is the recipient of the IEEE James L. Flanagan Speech and Audio Processing Award.

Corinna Cortes

Corinna Cortes is the Head of Google Research, NY, where she is working on a broad range of theoretical and applied large-scale machine learning problems. Prior to Google, Corinna spent more than ten years at AT&T Labs - Research, formerly AT&T Bell Labs, where she held a distinguished research position. Corinna's research work is well-known in particular for her contributions to the theoretical foundations of support vector machines (SVMs), for which she jointly with Vladimir Vapnik received the 2008 Paris Kanellakis Theory and Practice Award, and her work on data-mining in very large data sets for which she was awarded the AT&T Science and Technology Medal in the year 2000. Corinna received her MS degree in Physics from University of Copenhagen and joined AT&T Bell Labs as a researcher in 1989. She received her Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Rochester in 1993.

John R. Treichler

John Treichler received his BA and MEE degrees from Rice University, Houston, TX in 1970 and his PhDEE from Stanford in 1977. He served as a line officer aboard destroyers in the US Navy from 1970 to 1974. In 1977, he joined ARGOSystems in Sunnyvale, CA, and then helped found Applied Signal Technology, Inc. in 1984 after serving for a year as an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at Cornell University. Applied Signal Technology, now a mission area within the Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) business unit of Raytheon, Inc, designs and builds advanced signal processing equipment used by the United States government and its allies for foreign intelligence collection. For three years, Dr. Treichler was the President of the Raytheon Applied Signal Technology business unit and continues as the unit’s Chief Technical Officer. He was elected a Fellow in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 1991. He was awarded the IEEE Signal Processing Society’s Technical Achievement Award in 2000 and its first Industrial Leader Award in 2016. Dr. Treichler is on the President of the IEEE Foundation, and in 2016, he was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
